In July, the sun shines brightly, and the osmanthus flowers exude a sweet fragrance. Changzhi, Shanxi, located adjacent to the Taihang Mountains, has already entered autumn. The gentle autumn sun shines down upon the earth, making the photovoltaic panels on the rooftops of Luzhou District shine brilliantly. On September 9th, Xu Jian, an employee of the State Grid Changzhi Luzhou District Power Supply Company, utilized the "Online Power Grid" to complete a new round of surveying and assessment of photovoltaic resources on rooftops within the power supply area, as well as the calculation of consumption capacity.
Since the beginning of this year, State Grid Shanxi Electric Power Company has vigorously promoted the digital transformation of power grid development. By applying "Online Grid", it has made innovative practices in various aspects such as facilitating panoramic visualization of the digital grid, operating on multi-regulatory integrated maps, streamlining online business expansion processes, fully accommodating clean energy, intelligently assessing power economy, and efficiently serving rural revitalization. These efforts have realized the practical application and value manifestation of new technologies and new operation modes in the power industry.

Reliably support the consumption of new energy
"Based on the load and spacing conditions of the 220 kV substation, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the access capabilities of each substation, which are divided into four categories: priority access, accessible, accessible after expansion, and inaccessible." On August 20th, staff from the State Grid Changzhi Power Supply Company, relying on the big data of "Online Grid", analyzed the carrying capacity of the Changzhi power grid and reported to the local Energy Bureau. This report assisted the government department in providing a feasibility assessment for the layout of new energy projects being applied for in 2022, providing reliable support for the local new energy access.
As a pilot province for comprehensive reform of China's energy revolution, Shanxi faces a significant and arduous task in promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of energy. Shanxi Electric Power has made effective attempts to leverage the role of the power grid as a platform for optimizing resource allocation and boosting the development of new energy, with the "Online Grid" big data application being a key component.
"Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar are unstable, and the large-scale integration of such energy into the grid poses significant challenges to the reliable operation of the power grid," said a relevant person in charge from the Shanxi Electric Power Development Department. "We rely on the 'Online Grid' platform to analyze the grid's carrying capacity and rationally arrange dispatch and operation modes, ensuring that renewable energy projects are fully integrated while also guaranteeing the safe and reliable operation of the grid."
As of the end of August, the installed capacity of new energy in Shanxi Power Grid reached 37.87 million kilowatts, and it is expected to reach 80 million kilowatts during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. In line with the development trend of new energy, Shanxi Electric Power relies on the "Online Power Grid" platform to conduct preliminary feasibility studies on the development conditions of new energy in designated areas through sunshine information maps and meteorological information maps. At the same time, based on big data such as annual power generation and power output curves of existing new energy power generation projects in different regions, the power generation scale in different geographical areas is calculated.
Implement precise measures
"Ensure the smooth initiation of major projects"
In early July, just before the Taiyuan section of the Taixin Avenue was ready for traffic, the State Grid Taiyuan Power Supply Company received an urgent application for streetlight power from the Taiyuan Transportation Development Center. Upon receiving the application, the company's Dayu Power Supply Substation utilized the functions of "Online Power Grid" such as rapid positioning, automatic analysis, and online planning to complete the preparation of power supply schemes for a total of 40 power points in 4 sections within 3 days. The schemes were successfully reviewed and the customers were notified, ensuring the project was put into operation on schedule.
This year, the Taiyuan-Xinzhou Integrated Economic Zone has witnessed rapid development, with major infrastructure construction in full swing. Faced with the situation of concentrated load installation and urgent power consumption time, Taiyuan Power Supply has further deepened the application of "online power grid", continuously shortened the time for customers to handle electricity, accelerated the underground relocation of lines, and improved the lean operation and maintenance of lines.
"The 'Online Power Grid' has achieved the integration of diagrams and data, allowing for layered penetration of equipment archives on the diagram. Compared to the previous method of holding a diagram and a meter in one hand for comparison and inspection, it is much more convenient," introduced Qu Yaxu, a power supply planner from Taiyuan. "In addition, the marketing customer's archives and operational data have been integrated into the 'Online Power Grid', which helps us analyze the load characteristics of the installation project based on historical data of similar customers when calculating the power load of the park. This enables us to scientifically prepare the business expansion plan and effectively avoid the dual waste of power grid resources and customer investment caused by falsely high reported installation capacity."
The preparation of power supply schemes can be completed without leaving home, simplifying the previous processes such as on-site inspection and verification of grid system capacity parameters, site selection, and line routing. The preparation time for a single project's power supply scheme has been shortened from 3 days to 1 day. Since the beginning of this year, Taiyuan Power Supply has utilized the "Online Grid" to complete the special planning for power supply in the initial area of the Taiyuan-Xinzhou Economic Zone, 52 10 kV power supply schemes, and 3 underground transformation schemes for 10 kV lines in park roads, greatly improving the efficiency and quality of regional grid planning.
Since the State Grid Corporation of China launched the "Online Power Grid" 100-day campaign in June 2021, Shanxi Electric Power has taken the lead in realizing the practical application of the "Online Power Grid" across the entire province, with 27 power grid businesses achieving online management, operation on maps, and online services. This year, based on practical work, Shanxi Electric Power has made every effort to move towards the goal of a single-track and normalized system, basically achieving the digital transformation of development businesses, effectively improving management levels, and enhancing the efficiency and benefits of the power grid. At the end of July, the application case of Shanxi Electric Power's "Online Power Grid" was presented as an advanced model of digital empowerment at the State Grid Corporation of China booth at the 5th Digital China Construction Summit.
